Introduction of new tenancy from December 2017
The Private Housing (Tenancies) (Scotland) Act 2016, which is expected to take effect from December 2017, will introduce a new type of tenancy.
This will be known as a 'private residential tenancy' and its purpose is to improve security for tenants and provide safeguards for landlords, lenders and investors.
The Scottish Government has published information for tenants and landlords on the effect of this new tenancy.
The First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber) will have jurisdiction to determine specific matters in relation to these tenancies, by application from a tenant or landlord, and we will be publishing our own information on our role in the lead up to the launch of this tenancy.
